About this Event

Walking the Caring City

As a part of the annual international Jane’s Walk festival, come join us for a walk through the central city to explore themes of a caring and changing city. Jane’s Walk is an annual festival of free, citizen-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs. On this walk we’ll explore hidden spaces, public spaces/ public art, and share our experiences of a caring city.

Our cities can play a key role in looking after us and allowing us to care for ourselves, others, and the planet. By walking the streets of Tāmaki Makaurau we want to understand how the physical environment encourages co-responsibility, where it excludes or includes people, and how it reflects the needs and experiences of different social groups.

Accessibility Info: The walk will be roughly two hours in duration and will take place rain or shine. Average walking pace, some stairs and the odd steep section, uneven terrain, busy sidewalks, breaks offered along the way.

Walk Leaders:
Nadja Scherff is a passionate cyclist and mama, who is on a daily quest to combine both when venturing around Auckland.

Cara Fisher is an urbanist who loves psychogeography and exploring city spaces with others.
