Let's get nerdy for second:Humans are upright, bi-pedal (stand on two feet), mammals without a fur coat. Our bodies are shaped by and for walking and it's one of the movement we do most in our lives from a very young age. When we look at the history of humanity, walking has been central to our survival, especially in regards to finding food, water and forms of shelter.
This workshop, Walking into Dancing, will be a space where we get to pause and go back to the basics of walking, study walking and its ties with homosapians, explore cycles in our walking, dive deep into walking meditation and then take it into dynamic movement and dancing. If our bodies have been made to walk then it only makes sense to use the pathways that our body has crafted for walking as a reference for dancing.
In this workshop we will:
- Study the anatomy of the feet
- zoom out to study how the body collaborates as a whole for walking
- Explore our relationship to gravity and how that relates to walking
- Walk with presence
- Run
- Build our skills for jumping
- Tie it all together into fun yet complex dance sequences
This workshop will blend somatic practices, anatomical study and research, play, and dance techniques.
I am a certified axis syllabus teach and the information for this workshop will be largely inspired by the axis syllabus, a compilation of information looking at the body in motion.

Pricing:
$80-$160 per session (My ideal price for a day-long is $100)
$120 - $240 for both sessions
I recommend students to take both sessions as walking is one of our most ingrained patterns and it takes a lot of time and practice to find new pathways.
