In this participatory salon we’ll explore the 4,000-year history of labyrinths, an ancient form found in cultures around the world with some astonishing similarities despite geographical distance. We’ll sip tea and play with line drawings of labyrinth ‘seeds’ and the surprising mathematical possibilities that grow from them, and also explore the beauty of magic squares and their potential connections. Together we’ll create a large-scale labyrinth in chalk on the floor and will walk and dance this ancient path meditatively and playfully, experiencing the ways these mysterious patterns affect us. With live music, tea & lanterns!Presented by mathematical artists and musicians Susan Gerofsky, Helen Lambourne and Amanda Fritzlan.
