About this Event
The invasive Asian hornet (Vespa velutina nigrithorax) has spread rapidly across parts of Europe and East Asia in the last two decades, with concordant impacts upon beekeeping, agriculture, and biodiversity. While there have been concerted attempts to control the expanding invasion front, these have had only limited success—principally due to the difficulty of detection.
Join Dr. Thomas O'Shea-Wheller on a short walking tour of Exeter where we will look at how AI can help to address this issue. We will also look at the ongoing efforts to prevent the hornets’ establishment in the UK and how the public can assist with these efforts.
This event conicides with our Pop Up Curiosity Shop of Science and Culture at Princesshay Shopping Centre, be sure visit before or after your walk.
Further details about the events and where to meet will be circulated prior to the event.
