About this Event
Once a gravel pit and site of industry, the story of how Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve became what it is today is a fascinating one. Back in 1987 it was the first example of such a site being transformed for the purpose of nature conservation, and the former quarry was restored for wildlife thanks to the vision of Jeffery Harrison.
Guided by one of the Sevenoaks Area Reserve Wardens, you'll hear all about Harrison's pioneering and often unusual conservation techniques, and how these led to the creation of such an important habitat for wildlife. Now a Site of Special Scientific Interest with over 2000 species identified, Harrison's work certainly paid off.
The walk will be mostly flat and on footpaths, but due to the natural environment these may still be muddy and uneven in places.
Please ensure you are dressed for the weather and wearing comfortable footwear for walking. A bottle of water is recommended.
Our reserves team are used to working outdoors in all weathers, so we aim to go ahead with these experiences wherever possible. On occasion the warden may decide conditions are extreme enough to cancel the planned date, either because they'll be unable to deliver the event to a high enough quality or because it is unsafe to go ahead. If this is the case you will be offered an alternative date or refund. Unfortunately, we cannot refund tickets if the event takes place but you choose not to attend.
