Walk the Talk is a free guided walk series featuring guest experts in the local area. Our next event will explore the lower Ōtakāro-Avon in the estuary by Blighs Garden - a remarkable stretch of river and saltmarsh right on our doorstep in New Brighton. This area is home to an incredible range of wildlife including native spoonbills, kotuku/white-faced herons, pūkeko, shags and pāpango/scaup. The saltmarsh plays a vital role in filtering pollution, absorbing floodwaters, and providing food for aquatic life.
Join us to hear from highly respected specialists in their field - Nicholas Head (CCC Senior Ecologist), Andrew Crossland (CCC Park Ranger and bird expert), and Di Lucas (NZILA Landscape Architect) - as they share insights into the history, ecology, and future of this special place.
Learn about the native plants that can help attract more wildlife to the East, and how we can all contribute to protecting and enhancing this environment.
Free refreshments and sausage sizzle provided after the walk.
Please keep this a dog-free event as we will be bird-spotting!
