The Walk & Talk initiative involves female officers buddying up with women from their communities to go out on patrol in open spaces so that they can hear first-hand their experiences, concerns and reflections. The aim of the walkabout is to start a conversation between the public and officers about their safety concerns and what police can do, working with partners, to address them.

Chief Superintendent Colin Wingrove, Central South BCU Commander says, “Walk & Talk is a simple and effective way to engage women in conversation about ways to improve safety in their local neighbourhood, and in ways to restore trust and confidence in the Met."

“Feedback so far has already been used to shape our approach, inform successful funding bids, and maintain our focus on tackling violence against women and girls.”

Acting Inspector Becky Perkins who led the initial project says, “The walk & talk initiative has been adopted providing us, as female officers, an opportunity to speak to women in our communities about their experiences, concerns and reflections."

"It’s an extension of our daily business, because as Safer Neighbourhood Officers, we’re simply out on your wards with a member of the community we’re there to serve.”
