Join us Saturday, April 18, for the debut of “Begin Again: Wak’a Garden,” a new commission by 2026 Visiting Artist in Residence Juan William Chávez and 2026 Kranzberg Exhibition Series Artist Kiersten Torrez. Presented alongside Art & Nature Day, this is a free, all-ages event, happening across the Park from 11a.m.–2 p.m. We invite you to explore the connections between art, nature, and community through hands-on activities and creative play.
📍South Lawn (“Wak’a Garden” Exhibition & Art Activity Area)
🎨 Create seeding soil blocks, planting grow bags, and no-sew aprons and learn about native gardening and pollinators
🌼 At noon, experience Chávez and Torrez’s amphitheater-shaped "Wak'a Garden" built from fallen trees, branches, mud, and rocks largely gathered from the Park’s grounds, as they activate this multisensory space for reverence, gathering, and learning, with a special artist-led performance.
📍 Kranzberg Education Lab (Family Play Space)
🌱 Take a break indoors and explore nature through movement and your five senses
📍 Aronson Fine Arts Center ("Begin Again: 50 Years and Counting" Exhibition)
👣 Wander Laumeier's 50th anniversary exhibition
As the second installment in Laumeier's “Begin Again” series, “Wak’a Garden” continues the Park’s 50-year tradition of collaborating with artists and supporting new commissions.
