This February, we’re thrilled to host our second Waist Beading Workshop, where you’ll have the chance to explore your artistic side and connect with a vibrant community of women.
Led by guest instructor Ayodele Kinchen, a skilled Waist Bead Practitioner, this event will delve into the rich history and cultural significance of waist beads. Ayodele will guide you step-by-step in creating your own personalized waist beads to take home.

Ayodele Kinchen - Waist Bead Practitioner
Ayodele Kinchen is an artist, educator, dancer, culture keeper, wellness practitioner and motivational speaker with over 30+years of experience and historical knowledge of African waist bead culture. She is a Pan-African Bay Area, CA native and graduate of Howard University’s School of Business where she majored in Business Management-Administration. Ayodele’s background includes 18+ years in management directing youth leadership & community development programs, former resident cultural dance arts instructor and afterschool program director for OUSD school district, primary dancer for Fua Dia Congo dance company and founder/owner/designer of Duafe Designs/Waist Beads by Ayodele established in 2004.
In 2020, Ayodele established Ase’ Institute – Bay Area, a non-profit organization that sponsors "Sisters of Tomorrow," an African-centered rites of passage program for African American girls age 7-18. Ayodele finds purpose through her mission to uplift, inspire and empower girls and women utilizing her artistic mediums to encourage self-love, self care and self-preservation. Ayodele is a wife of 21 years and mother to 3 children who leads with compassion, integrity and intention. She is honored as a waist bead practioner of 20 years who preserves safe spaces for girls and women to be seen, heard, celebrated and adorned.
