Wailing from the Eath: a night of poetic performance brings together poets Sunshine Lombré, Christian Aldana and Robin Bobo, supported by bassist Carmani Edwards.

Together across two acts they will share motivational and political poetry to uplift and inspire the audience in addition to increasing awareness and activism of various social issues through their writings.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.

Doors open at 6pm and our performance begins at 7pm. Dorothy remains open after the show from 9-11pm with late night happy hour from 10-11pm.

Dorothy is 21+ and requires physical ID for all to enter. Dorothy is also ADA accessible with elevator access on Campbell Ave. If you are a guest who requires elevator access, please wait by the black doors on Campbell Ave and call our staff to assist: 773-770-3799

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS

Chicago native Sunshine Lombre is a dancer & poet who specializes in expressing sensuality & emotional authenticity through her words & movements. Sunshine performs poetry and choreography while also curating seasonal artist showcases based around Black heritage. Sunshine strives to share her passion for Spoken Word and choreography while empowering Black communities worldwide through teaching creative writing classes through “Poetry for Personal Power”, the Chicago Public Library system, Hyde Park Art Center & other Arts Organizations. She’s been an opening act for Twista and has released debut poetry album “Fading Away."

Carmani Edwards is a bassist and composer born and raised in Chicago. A lifelong creative, at 16 her focus shifted from visual arts to include music, taking up the electric bass in her high school jazz band and adopting the acoustic bass a year later. She graduated from DePaul University’s Jazz Studies Program in 2022, and has been sharing her sound around the city ever since.

Christian Aldana (they/she) is the author of The Water We Swim In (Sampaguita Press, 2023) They are a Filipinx artist, educator, and community organizer based in Chicago. Christian founded Luya, a poetry organization that centers the voices of BIPOC. From Palestine to the Philippines, stop the US war machine!

Robin Danielle Bobo, born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, is a product of the 80s. Growing up in a small town, her main outlets were writing, singing, dancing, and creating.In the late 90s, she relocated to Chicago and quickly became immersed in the poetry scene, participating in slams, Louder than a Bomb competitions, and open mic nights.Her life took a significant turn when she encountered Dionne Hawkins at the Austin Town Hall Cultural Center, leading her to delve into stage plays, including productions at Austin Town Hall Cultural Center and Circle Theater in Oak Park, Illinois.Musical theater became her passion, starring in various productions such as "The Wiz" and "DreamGirls," which ultimately led her to connect with fellow creatives who shared her love for artistic expression.Following her ventures in theater and television, Robin found herself drawn to dance, joining the Hornets Drill Team on the west side of Chicago. She's now the owner of Bobo's Emporium and has performed all throughout the country.
