About this Event
Explore the Waikōwhai coastline in the Manukau Harbour by kayak, launching from Taylors Bay. Explore the harbour with an extended paddle and learn how to protect this precious ecosystem and the wildlife, from our mangroves to the history of the manukau and identifying local wading birds.
This event provides a taster into kayaking, with interactive freshwater and marine infomation on hand in the tent if you are inspired to learn more! Expect to spend ~1hour 15 mins on the water kayaking. Fun for the whole whanau – minimum age of 8.
Sea conditions permitting - we will run with light rain.
Te Kura Moana - Experiencing Marine Reserves runs a series of free and subsidised events over the summer months - we rely on your support to make them happen. We appreciate donations, either cash/eftpos on the day, online or by giving a koha of your time volunteering at a future event. Some people donate $5-15pp.
Children younger than 8 will not be able to participate. Children aged 8-12 need to have a confident adult in the back of their kayak. Children under 13 need an adult companion. Max weight of 120kg for kayaking.
Registrations are essential.
This event is in partnership with Auckland Sea Kayaks and is funded by the Puketāpapa Local Board, Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa and the Bobby Stafford Bush Foundation.
Sunday 12th May From 10.30am to 2:45pm
There will be Group A and Group B. Each session will be 2hours. You need to be present for the full 2 hours and please arrive 15mins prior to your time slot to check in at the tent.
Early access codes for people in the Puketāpapa local board area will be circulated to local pages or email [email protected] to access.
Otherwise all remaining tickets will go live on Monday 29th April.

If you are feeling unwell (sore throat, running nose, loss of taste/smell) please let us know prior as soon as possible. You will not be able to attend the event. If you suffer from allergies – please let us know when you arrive.
Cancellation policy: If you give less than 24hrs notice when cancelling your registration or you no show without a valid excuse (i.e COVID, or other illness) then you will be sent an invoice of $20 per person.
