RICHARD WAGNER Act I from The Valkyrie
Immerse yourself in the richly colored world of Richard Wagner through two contrasting works. The Siegfried Idyll was written as a birthday present for Wagner’s wife Cosima after the birth of their son Siegfried; it is among Wagner’s most intimate and personal compositions and was described by the composer as a “quiet joy that now takes the form of music.” After intermission, we shift to the epic world of Norse mythology with the first act of Wagner’s opera The Valkyrie, which tells the story of the doomed love of Siegmund and Sieglinde.
