1 will be chosen to represent the Pacific Northwest in the Wacken Metal Battle National FINAL in San Diego in June.
The winner of the National Battle will be awarded a slot on stage at the 2024 Wacken Open Air in Germany in August.

Karl Whinnery is the bassist for Vintersea, guitarist for Ligature Marks and founder of HotKarlProductions.
Karl stays busy as a member of two emerging metal bands in Portland, Vintersea (M-Theory), and Ligature Marks. Since 2018, Ligature Marks have released an EP and several singles. Vintersea have released 2 albums, multiple singles and videos since 2017.
Karl is also the founder and chief creative at HotKarlProductions, a video production company which was initially created to make killer music videos for Portland artists but has since also branched into advertising and the production of the full length horror film, “Jason Rising”. HotKarlProductions has created music videos for Dead Animal Assembly Plant, Vicious Rumors, Amerakin Overdose, Othrys, Toxic Zombie, Ligature Marks, Vintersea, and more. The music videos created for Vintersea alone have racked up nearly 3 million views on YouTube. The latest, “At the Gloaming Void” can be found here.
Karl’s unique perspective as performer and video director will no doubt have a bearing on the way he scores the battling bands performances.
Josh Holland is a seasoned music producer from the Pacific Northwest, and has seen the music industry from nearly every angle. From his early days in established bands (In The Aether, Karmedy, Templeshock) to guiding emerging artists in finding their sound and carving out their path in the industry, his journey has been rich and varied. Currently producing artists at Greenlight Studios as well as building a new project, All But Denied, of which is both a solo project as well as a vehicle to bring other artists into the forefront. He has worked with such artists as Berried Alive, MVKO, Lyrizone, Beautiful Skeletons, and many more with hundreds of thousands of streams to date. Beyond the studio, he's built a social media platform dedicated to empowering artists to not only excel in their craft but also to maintain robust mental health. His overarching aim? To help artists skillfully navigate the complexities of the music world while safeguarding their mental well-being.
JMo - Jason Moser, AKA Jmo, is a veteran of the Portland music scene, having played in such bands as Bad Karma, Father Mary, British Steel, and Sinnergy. He is currently playing guitar in Splintered Throne. His likes include metal, beer, and when crummy human beings take a long walk off a short pier. In 2022, Splintered Throne successfully competed in the Wacken Metal Battle. Their 2nd place performance allowed them to move on to the Pacific Northwest Finals. Jmo brings his years of experience and keen understanding of stage work to the judging platform.
