Dr. Gabriel and Jennifer Rivera live in Omaha, where he is a biology professor at Creighton University and she works as a counselor. They invite you to join them on a visual journey through the heart of Nebraska, where the Central Flyway carries millions of birds across the continent each year. Based in Omaha, they live at a natural crossroads, where the deciduous forests of the east meet the grasslands of the Great Plains and the doorway to the Rockies begins. It’s a landscape that reflects the incredible diversity of birds that pass through and call this region home. **Wachiska's vision for our free public Speaker Series is to give venue to share expert knowledge about nature, wildlife, ecology, conservation science, literature, and storytelling so that we may help deepen the public’s understanding of the environment, celebrate diversity in perspectives and disciplines as we do in both nature and people. We hope to inspire stewardship and care for the natural world by broadening awareness of ecological issues and how people can take meaningful action locally and beyond, and finally we wish to build community around nature appreciation, providing an accessible forum where residents can learn, ask questions, and connect with others who care about natural ecosystems.
