𝘿𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬….
In modern Japan, a sub-cultural group called fujoshi (Hủ nữ), meaning “rotten girls”, referring to young women who enjoy reading homoerotic manga called yaoi, have been expanding their community internationally through the internet.
From this community, the Omegaverse was born: a sprawling fan-made mythological world where 𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 are reshaped independently. Here, fandoms evolve their own moral economies of power, where traditional hierarchies can be both reinforced and undone.
However, could this be a sign of how deeply 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 are ingrained? And also to the point that even fictional worlds built for 𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘀𝗺 unconsciously reproduce 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻?
This week VinUni Research Club invites you to a research reading session about “𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗺𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗢𝟯 𝗙𝗮𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻”, and together we’ll uncover not only how 𝘖𝘮𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦 could possibly reflect these days rules of identity and power but also how a non-traditional topic like fanfiction could be analyzed.
