“We Don’t Need This Fascist Groove Thang” is a fantastic song by Heaven 17 which includes the lyrics “Reagan’s President elect/Fascist god in motion…History will repeat itself…”Well, here we are with history unfortunately and worryingly repeating itself.
So Mimi Dromette and I thought this would be a good time to stage an event with protest music from the 70s and 80s—music of rage, outrage, and resistance. Music lamenting the state of the world. Music of political and social unrest.
DJ Dynamo will be pulling out great 80s music from this tradition and Mimi Dromette will be bringing punk selections on vinyl. Sadly a lot of the situations showcased in these songs are still relevant.
A portion of door proceeds will go to a local organization (tba) working for marginalized groups increasingly threatened by the rise in fascism and intolerance.
So get ready to dance to a good cause for bad times.
