Believe It; You Can Learn Photography
Learning how to use a camera is more challenging than many people realize. With all the hype and misinformation about learning “pro” photography on the weekend, it’s no wonder people think using a camera is easy—until they try.
Brief camera introductions and overviews are OK but only point out the way, giving you just enough information to “be dangerous.” But you want more than that with your photography, right?
Beginner Photography ONE establishes the proper technical footing for your photography and teaches you how to use a camera to capture great pictures. Leave Auto mode behind with a class that has helped thousands of students learn to take control of their cameras.
Oh yeah, and you’ll have a great time. Read student reviews.
Classes run MONTHLY throughout the year
A new class begins each month (save December) and is offered on different days of the week for better scheduling flexibility. If something comes up and you can’t make a session, you can jump into another class that week and catch the same material.
100% Until it Clicks Promise
Learning photography and complicated cameras can be challenging; as part of my "100% Until it Clicks" promise, you may retake the class anytime at no cost.
Photography is FUN when you know what you’re doing with a camera.

BEGINNER PHOTOGRAPHY ONE CLASS OUTLINE
Session 1: FOCUS
Following the location of basic camera settings, your quest for better photos begins with exploring Auto and Manual FOCUS. Unlike other aspects of a picture, a missed focus is forever and can’t be fixed. Discover the various AF modes and how to get sharp images for any subject, including landscapes and nature, people and portraits, and sports.
Session 2: EXPOSE
Every photo involves three light-based elements: ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. EXPOSE reveals how each feature relates to light and contributes to the appearance of your image. Learn to capture a summersault in midair, render a silky smooth waterfall, and envelop subjects with beautifully blurred backgrounds or bokeh.
Session 3: CONTROL
Bringing shape to your ideas, CONTROL teaches you how to work with the light elements of exposure using Manual, Aperture Priority, and Shutter Priority. Each mode can produce the same picture; the one you use is more of a preference. There will be plenty of patient coaching and hands-on practice to ensure you understand how to use them.
Session 4: EXPRESS
The great thing about creativity is that it is personal and expressed differently by everyone. No two people experience the same scene in the same way, but cameras do. EXPRESS reveals how the camera responds to light and allows you to make more creative exposure decisions with your photos in nearly any lighting condition.
Session 5: CLASS OUTING
Although there are plenty of hands-on activities during class and assignments for you to practice at home, we wrap each class with a scheduled group outing to practice what was learned TOGETHER. Locations vary but are close and easily accessible to everyone. We'll talk about it in class and pick a date and time that works best for everyone.
