  • Learn to evaluate their own volunteering preferences and motivations to find the right role
  • Hear from passionate speakers about their own volunteering journey, and how they found their perfect roles .

Meet Our Speakers:

Leonard Rudner, North York Seniors Centre

Leonard is an 84-year-old volunteer who has been recognized by the Government of Ontario for his contributions to volunteering. As part of his rewarding 45-year career in the Canadian packaging industry, Len volunteered on the Board of Directors of the Packaging Association of Canada for 15 years, including two terms as the Chair. After retiring from the industry for the fourth and final time in May 2016, he began his new career in volunteering.

Len has supported the work of North York Seniors Centre for nearly seven years, beginning as a participant, progressing to a volunteer and then a Board Member, with responsibilities over the governance and direction of the organization. Len will share his experiences volunteering at the frontline and in leadership with Seminar attendees.

Dave Rose, Harbourfront Centre

Dave Rose has always taken a holistic view, both in the workplace and in his volunteering activities. During his fruitful and varied 33-year career at a multi-national technology company, Dave experienced the value of mentoring and building the next generation.

After retiring at the end of 2016, Dave now devotes his energy to volunteering at the intersection of people and organizations through skills and engagement-based activities to build strong local communities.

Dave's volunteer career started in 2010, with work performed in Kenya on improving voting engagement. Since then, he has enjoyed volunteering with all aspects of communities. These include children, youth, citizen engagement, food security, animal welfare, newcomers, environmental concerns, and arts and culture. His roles have been just as varied, from art guide to visitor experience, to team lead, to volunteer coordination, and mentoring, among others.

He is grateful to be able to share his experiences on helping to create strong communities through active volunteering with you.
