DESCRIPTION:

Project Homeless Connect KC is an event that allows individuals experiencing homelessness to receive necessary services at one location. Volunteers are the only way we are able to ensure that this event takes place at its full potential, seeing 400 people in need this day. From providing help with event logistics, to creating meaningful connections by working directly with those in need, this experience will allow you to impact the lives of individuals needing help. You can truly change lives at Project Homeless Connect KC. Volunteers must be 18 years or older to fill most shifts unless noted otherwise.

For returning AND first time-volunteers: detailed training is provided for the day of event, at our event venue, Gregg/Kice Community Center - attendance is REQUIRED for Navigators.

Volunteer Position Descriptions:

NAVIGATORS: MOST CRITICAL NEED - 150-200 PEOPLE NEEDED . Volunteer navigators are paired one-to-one with a person experiencing homelessness to help navigate the event. You will play an important role in making sure that guests feel comfortable and welcome, listening and learning their needs, and ensuring they receieve the services that are needed. If this is your first time as a navigator for Project Homeless Connect KC, you will recieve mandatory training as part of your shift.

GENERAL/SPECIALTY: As a general volunteer, you will be placed wherever help is needed most. This volunteer will be flexible as they may be moved to many stations. From lunch setup, to line management, to managing hair "appointments", to any other tasks that may arise, if you're open to anything, this position is for you! If this is your first time volunteering at Project Homeless Connect KC, you will receive training as part of your shift. This shift is suitable for those under 18 with a waiver signed by a legal guardian.

CHECK-IN/OUT: The check in and check out volunteers will oversee the client entry and exit point. Volunteers will asssit clients in providing information about the available services as well as assisting with filling out the check in forms. Training is offered and recommended.

PRE-EVENT (two shifts available - night before and morning of): Heavy lifting required. The night before the event and early morning the day of, volunteers are needed to assist with set up. Duties will range from setting up serice areas, to moving tables, to assembling hygiene kits, to posting signage. Additional duties may arise as set up occurs. This shift is suitable for those under 18 with a waiver signed by a legal guardian.

POST-EVENT (same day teardown): Heavy lifiting required. After the event ends, we will need to remove all of our items from the building. This could include breaking down tables, collecting objects, and loading vehicles. This shift is suitable for those under 18 with a waiver signed by a legal guardian.

HEALTH HELPER: During this event, we offer many dental and medical services. At the beginning of the process, there is a medical check-in station where vitals are taken and recorded on guest-owned paperwork, forms are filled out, and an explaination of available services helps "triage" guests to a proper direction. If you are a health care professional that can take vitals (please bring your own stethescope and wear scrubs) and are willing to help with this station, please register and more details will be provided at a later time.

Thank you so much for your willingness to help us provide necessary services to our neighbors in Kansas City! If you have any questions or concerns regarding the aforementioned information, please email [email protected].
