A Peer Supporter has made significant progress in their own mental illness recovery and uses personal experience to model wellness, self-advocacy, responsibility, and hope for those who need it now.
Volunteer Peer Supporters have the opportunity to help others identify strengths, abilities, and skills in order to develop and achieve recovery and wellness goals. A Peer Supporter can help connect others to local resources and provide education about mental health, wellness, and the recovery journey.
Qualified volunteers must be in recovery from a mental health condition and willing to share their personal story. This training will cover topics like what is peer support, what is recovery, active listening, recovery language, scenarios, and more.
Training will occur in person every Tuesday starting on July 16th and ending on August 6th. Training sessions are two hours long starting at 6 pm.
