Volunteer with Grassroots Ecology by participating in habitat restoration at Huddart Park!
About this Event

Enjoy the outdoors, and work to restore habitat at an essential wildlife corridor. Volunteers will support the restoration of this California ecosystem by removing French broom, a woody invasive plant. We will make short stops along our walk to and from the restoration area to showcase plants growing in Huddart Park.

Accessibility considerations include hiking on uneven and steep terrain, being outside for the entire length of the event, and kneeling, squatting, and standing to pull invasive plants. Volunteers will be supplied with gloves, kneelers, and all tools.

Huddart Park is a San Mateo County Park with over 900 acres of protected forest. Huddart consists of picnic areas, groves of redwood trees, oak woodlands, and slopes with a creek that runs through the park. This work is made possible by the San Mateo County Parks Foundation. Visit San Mateo County's Huddart Park page and San Mateo County Parks Foundation to learn more.

Waivers/Registration: All attendees must be registered individually and have approved the online waiver through this Eventbrite page. Youth under 18 must have their legal guardian approve the waiver on their behalf.

Transportation for Huddart Park: The best way to get to the park is by personal cars as there is no public transportation to Huddart Park. Please carpool if possible. The road up to the park is steep and curvy. Download driving instructions ahead of time, as there is limited cell reception up on Kings Mountain Rd. A ranger will be at the park entrance, and volunteers will receive entry details in their confirmation email. Please account for driving through the park and parking to take 10 to 15 minutes.

Meeting Space: Meet at the Redwood Shelter Picnic Area. There are multiple drinking fountains available and a restroom at the meeting spot.

There is cell service within some areas of the park.
