Vivāha vaibhogam : Celebrating a convergence of Pathways Weddings in India are known for colour, festivity, camaraderie, relationship building, music, dance and food. While the joy of a wedding as two paths converge cannot be understated, in our delight with the celebration and fanfare, we often miss the spiritual heart of the social institution that weddings signify.
As many parts of India celebrate 'wedding season' at the start of Uttarayana, Paanchajanya is delighted to bring to you a specially curated event that takes you through the meaning and significance of different aspects of a traditional South Indian wedding, complete with a traditional wedding meal served on a banana leaf.
It is indeed our blessing that renowned Vedic scholar, Vaidika Mārga Raksāmaṇi Śrī Sarma Sastrigal has graciously agreed to present the inaugural address on Vivāha in the Hindu way of Life
Vivaha Vaibhogam features:
Smt. Jayanthi Iyengar who will take us on a literary sojourn as she enthralls us with stories of wedding festivities as narrated in Tamil literature,
Smt Sowmya Ramesh, who will sing the songs, that embellish each aspect of the wedding ceremony
Dr. Madhumitha Krishnan, Ayurvedic Vaidya, who will explain the why of the wedding meal, the nuances of plating and serving and how it is to be eaten.
From Mangala Vadyam to kalyana sapadu, from kasi halwa to thamboolam, Vivaha Vaibhogam brings to you the experience of myriad aspects of the South Indian 'Kalyanam,' a beautiful term for 'wedding' signifying an auspicious beginning as two people choose to walk the same path.
