Viva Voce presents: Let the Games Begin!

Sixteen days before the Paris Olympics kick off in July, an even more song-worthy extravaganza gets underway right here in Auckland! It’s the WORLD CHOIR GAMES, the largest choral competition and festival on the planet, with 11 more competitive events and 1000 more competitors than the Olympics, and better anthem singing!
The one slight problem is that Viva Voce can’t enter! Just because our conductor also happens to be Artistic Director of the Games, every other choir in the world is eligible to compete except us.
Undaunted, we’ve decided to submit a competition entry regardless… though slightly ahead of time, in April! And while we’ll still be singing in one of the official WCG2024 venues, our discerning audience – rather than a bunch of international judges – will be you!
Even better, we get to enter as many different categories as we like: our favourite traditional sacred music and contemporary part songs, as well as much-loved jazz, gospel, spiritual, pop and folk pieces.
We also aim to bring you the first live performance of Don McGlashan’s brand-new WCG2024 official song ‘Breathing In, Breathing Out’, along with the première of Anthony Ritchie’s ‘Waipunarangi’ – Viva Voce’s part in the multi-composer, multi-choir work Matariki He Kāhui Reo (Matariki: A Constellation of Voices) that will headline NZ’s musical contribution to the Games.
Come along and hear us win gold with every song!
