Join us for an afternoon of women in song! Jazz, Hollywood’s Golden Age and opera are all celebrated in "Viva the Divas: A Musical Revue," performed by acclaimed actress-chanteuse Goldee B. Greene.Viva the Divas is a fun yet enlightening musical revue directed by Fran DiSarro, celebrating several goddesses of the lyric art. Each has her own signature style, schtick, or both: Ethel Water’s 1920’s flapper garb, Bessie Smith’s theatrical antics, Mae West’s arch, suggestive banter, Marlene Dietrich’s top hat and attitude. And of course, Billie Holiday’s white gardenia as well as the glittering crown perched on the lovely head of Queen of the Blues Dinah Washington. Shades of Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Eartha Kitt, Lena Horne, and Edith Piaf also grace the stage. And count on at least one operatic diva character to jump in.
Award-winning Music Director Tom McCoy will accompany with the stellar David Winograd on bass. Musical fare includes standard songs ranging from the 1920’s through the '50s, as well as a couple of originals.
Free and open to all! Appropriate for anyone age 10+.
