SALSA TUMBAO WARM UP PARTY - FRIDAY NOVEMBER 22-----------------------------------------------
We're coinciding our monthly Cuban Social night with Salsa Tumbao festival (on Nov 23-24) to create a WARM-UP Party for out of town guests including featured artists!
One of the visiting instructors is Pablo (aka Pabs) who will be taking the open level workshop at 8.30pm:
Originally from Santiago, Chile, Pablo has called the sunny city of Nelson his home for the past six years. As the director of NelsonSon Dance & Entertainment, he shares his deep-rooted passion for Afro-Latin and Caribbean dance styles with the local community. Pablo's dance journey began at the age of 15, exploring various styles from Rock & Roll to Bachata and Salsa LA, until he found his true love in Cuban and African rhythms.
Pablo's transition to teaching dance was unexpected, starting in 2003 when he began assisting in classes. By 2005, he was introduced to 'Rueda de Casino' through the University of Chile's dance group 'Latido en Clave.' His solo teaching journey began in 2014 while backpacking in New Zealand, where he exchanged dance lessons for accommodation. His dance career flourished in Melbourne, where he joined several performance teams and participated in renowned festivals. After gaining extensive experience, Pablo returned to New Zealand with his wife, Nikki, connecting with the South Island's dance community through workshops and classes.
Although he is currently taking a break from teaching to focus on fatherhood, Pablo continues to run social dances and workshops. He plans to resume regular Cuban Casino classes in 2025. One of his main goals is to emphasize the importance of understanding the roots of Cuban and African music and dance.
