About this Event
This special event will consist of a tour of the village of Edensor and its surroundings led by noted local author and longtime Edensor resident Christine Robinson, former head housekeeper for the 12th Duke of Devonshire at Chatsworth House.
Alongside her husband Clive, Christine will guide you on a gentle stroll around this historic Peak District village on the Chatsworth Estate, which they have called home for over 40 years.
The walk will take you around the remains of the 'old village' and Teapot Row, the Chatsworth Estate Office and the twisting paths and lanes of the main village before finishing at the Grade I listed Church of St. Peter.
Along the way, Christine and Clive will share their extensive knowledge of the history and heritage of Edensor, its residents and the wider Estate with you, including aspects of their family history and many titbits that you won't find in a guidebook!
Meeting point: The Chatsworth Estate Office, DE45 1PJ (For Google Maps search for Chatsworth Golf Club).
Directions and parking: For those attending the tour, parking is available at the Chatsworth Estate Offices (where the tour will begin) or outside the church (where the tour will finish).
Accessibility: Some rough ground (sturdy shoes will be needed), and some gentle inclines. Some paths, steps may be slippery if it has rained. The walk will be about 2 miles in total and should be suitable for most levels of fitness with the majority being paved paths and roads.
Refreshments and toilet facilities: At the end of the tour, there will be time for a chat and any questions.
Hot drinks will be available at the church (donations welcomed please, these will go towards the upkeep of the church).
Christine will share fascinating images via projector of old maps and pictures of Edensor. Toilet facilities (including an accessible toilet) will be available at this point.
