Wednesday 15th January - Visions: Musicians Meet UpJoin us for the second of our bi-monthly get-togethers for musicians, music activists, and anyone who loves talking about music and the industry.
Held at The Georgian Theatre Bar from 6-8pm, this event gives you the opportunity to chat with music industry experts and ask them anything you’d like to know—all while enjoying free pizza and pop.
Kicking off our first event is Matt Baty (Wipe Out Music/Pigs x7) & Helen Walkinshaw (Index/Irked)...
MATT BATY is a Director and Sync Manager at Wipe Out Music, a music services and publishing company based in Newcastle. In its near 30-year history Wipe Out Music has procured sync licenses across TV, Film, Advertising and Computer Games with clients including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky, Netflix, HBO, Amazon and many more. One of Matt’s roles at Wipe Out Music is to seek out potential licensing opportunities for their artists, as well as negotiating appropriate licensing fees and approving final paperwork.
Matt is also vocalist of the Newcastle based band Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs who tour extensively both in the UK and overseas as well as releasing albums on Rocket Recordings and Missing Piece in the US.
HELEN WALKINSHAW is a freelance music industry professional and artist, with over 15 years of experience, working across event coordination, business strategy and creative development in the North East. Previously holding held key roles at cultural institutions including The Glasshouse Centre for Music and Generator North East, currently a Trustee of Gosforth Civic Theatre and Liberdade Trust, Helen is passionate about inclusivity, accessibility and community engagement, leading projects that connect creatives and support emerging talent. As a Co-Founder of Index Music Ltd, she continues to advocate for positive change in the North East Music Community through research, advocacy and consultancy, securing funding from Creative UK, Newcastle University and The Kings Trust to establish an industry directory.
Helen is an active touring musician, occasional DJ and DIY promoter (operating alongside F54 Live as Brave Exhibitions). In 2024 she was a Create:Disrupt artist in residence at The New Bridge Project, her band Irked were cited as BBC Introducing 'Ones to Watch', and participated in The Glasshouse ICM Summer Studios, to write their debut album (to be released on 2025 with support from Wrong Speed Records and PRSF)
