About this Event
This is the first of four textile workshops hosted by the Trans Closet of the Hudson Valley, made possible by a grant from Arts Mid-Hudson! All other workshops will be in person, but this first one is going to be held virtually over zoom. This series of workshops is exclusively by and for local trans people, and a large part of their purpose is creating spaces where trans people can spend time together, making new friends and learning new skills within the safety and love of their community <3
The workshop will focus on teaching the basics of visible mending, which is a way of mending clothing where the repair work is left visible on purpose. It can include things like patchwork, hand-sewing torn fabrics with bright colors or cool patterns, and more. (You can see some examples in the images below.) In this 101 workshop, you'll learn the basics of hand-sewing and patch-making, and be able to start a project! This is an introductory workshop, but it's open to all levels of experience--if you've never threaded a needle before but you're curious about visible mending, please come join us!!
We will mail supplies to each participant ahead of the workshop, which is why the RSVP form asks for a mailing address.
We can't wait to see you all! Lots of love from TCHV.
