Discover new ways of telling stories, creating, displaying and interacting with applications, content and experiences. Learn about the key technologies and undertake the process of developing Virtual Reality (VR) applications using industry standard software tools and equipment. Explore key applications for immersive technology and identify opportunities for adoption in your organisation.
During this programme, you will learn how to develop Virtual Reality (VR) experiences within Unity gaming engine. You will learn the basics of head and hand positional tracking and manage controller input methods and hand presence detection.
You will be introduced to locomotion and teleportation features in VR and implement physics-based object interaction. On the second day, you will learn how to utilise inverse kinematics to animate a character’s skeleton movements. You will create full body avatars from a range of different inputs.
This programme builds on your existing understanding of games design principles and implementation of UI elements in Unity. You will write and optimise game code for VR applications in the Unity gaming engine.

There are no formal entry requirements for this programme. Some experience of working in Unity or programming in a language such as C# would be beneficial.
After completing this programme you can progress into an entry-level developer role in the Gaming & Animation Industry, or complete a Masters Degree in Virtual Reality.
This programme is funded by Welsh Government through the React Plus Scheme. Eligibility criteria for funding applies.
To apply for funding to attend this programme, you must be:
- Living in Wales; and
- Over the Age of 19; and
either:
- Unemployed for less than 12 months; or
- Aged 18 – 24 and currently unemployed
If you are ineligible for React Plus funding you may be able to fund yourself privately. The cost of this programme is £1,500.
Virtual Reality Games Development in Unity is being delivered by iungo Solutions and is funded by Welsh Government.
Application Process
Once we receive your initial expression of interest through Eventbrite, a member of the team will call you within 2 working days to assess your eligibility and support you to complete a full application to secure your space on the programme.
You will need to provide evidence of your eligibility to Careers Wales so that it can be verified Welsh Government. The application process can take 3-5 days so long as you provide the correct evidence on time.
