About this Event
Most people want to help in a crisis. Few have the tools to do it. CitySafe closes that gap.
This free two-hour workshop is part of the NYC Violence Prevention Series, a citywide training initiative running March through July 2026, made possible by the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program and funded by the NYC Department of Veterans' Services.
You'll walk away with practical skills across three areas:
Situational Awareness — how to read your environment and recognize warning signs early, in the kind of high-movement urban settings New Yorkers deal with every day.
De-escalation — verbal and psychological tools that actually work to defuse tension before it turns physical.
Defensive Tactics — practical, real-world physical self-defense skills built for city life.
No experience required. This is designed for everyday New Yorkers — commuters, neighbors, coworkers. Military veterans and their families are especially encouraged to attend.
Free admission. Space is limited.
