WHAT IS ROSÉ?

Yes, rosé is a French word — but at heart, it’s an Italian wine. Named for their rosy color, true rosés are designed for hot sunny days and warm starry nights. Each sip is crisp, semi-sweet, and refreshing. Ranging from pale orange to blushing pink to nearly violet, each wine’s color is drawn from the grape varietals and vinification. We’ll toast to that!

In Italy, rosés predominantly blend well-known red-wine varietals such as Sangiovese, Barbera, Freisa, Nebbiolo, among others. These wines are meticulously crafted using the saignée method, where the grapes undergo a brief maceration, resting with their skins for as little as six hours to as long as three days before fermentation begins. This method, akin to that used in crafting red wines, ensures a nuanced flavor profile and a gentle extraction of color and tannins. The depth and hue of the rosé are influenced by the duration of maceration; longer contact with the grape skins yields a richer, more robust character.
