Peter joined Leicestershire Museums in 1976 as Archaeological Survey Officer, having spent 6 years working as a site archaeologist (the first three years in vacations while at University). In 1997 he became Keeper of Archaeology running both the Museum curatorial side and the role normally called County Archaeology (overseeing planning and records). Having taken early retirement, Peter became Community Archaeologist for the County, finishing in 2012.He was an Associate Lecturer at Leicester University on the Certificate of Archaeology course until that was wound up and is still an Honorary Visiting Fellow in the School of Archaeology and Ancient History.Peter was the Chair of judges for the British Archaeological Award for Community Archaeology and is currently Chair of Leicestershire Fieldworkers (a voluntary group of some 400 members organising fieldwork in Leicestershire and Rutland) and coordinate the Leicestershire and Rutland Festival of Archaeology.

Live 'in person' Events
Our advertised live events are held at the Guildhall in Lichfield. They are FREE to all who join the Staffordshire Archaeological & Historical Society, but non-members can attend for a fee of £3 payable on the door.
Zoom 'virtual' Events
Our advertised virtual events are held over Zoom. They are also free for members; links for virtual events will be provided in emails. If you are a non-member and wish to join a Zoom event, please contact us.
Membership entitles you to attend our meetings and events for free, receive our regular email communications, including the newsletters, and allows access to the online password-controlled website Member Area archive of all the Society's Transactions (our annual journals), including those last 5 Volumes which are not Open Access, and entitles you to receive print copies of each Transactions when they are published.
