Mathias Tacke - Violin William Koehler - Piano
Not directly related to espionage or spy-games, this musical program nevertheless wants to reveal hidden and not-so-hidden musical connections. The main points of references are three very different sonatinas (small sonatas), composed in the span of just two months by the 19-year-old Franz Schubert in Vienna in 1816. Almost a century later, another young and native Viennese composer, Anton Webern, wrote his expressive and highly condensed Four Pieces for Violin and Piano. Yet another half-century later, in 1979, György Kurtag, greatly inspired by Schubert and Webern, composed his Tre Pezzi for Violin and Piano. These two sets of musical aphorisms (Kurtag and Webern) build dramatic segues, magically connecting Schubert with Schubert.
