Utstillingsperiode 20. september – 9. novemberGratuito, Moreno y Anticolonial betyr «gratis, brun og antikolonial», og er slagordet for det lille, uavhengige, kunstnerdrevne visningsstedet El Faro. El Faro ble grunnlagt i 2024 og driver en kollektiv undersøkelse av hva kunst kan være, og hva den kan bety i en boliviansk kontekst.
Kunstneren Vicente Mollestad ble valgt gjennom UKS sin åpne utlysning. Han ønsket å kanalisere ressursene fra separatutstillingen i UKS inn i den lokale kunstscenen i Bolivia, hans fødeland. De siste seks årene har han hovedsakelig tilbrakt i El Alto, der han har etablert og drevet El Faro sammen med Cristal Melby og Fide Muñez.
Utstillingen er like mye en kritisk gest som en tydelig og solid kjærlighetserklæring. Den stiller spørsmål ved hva det betyr å oversette, eksportere og bygge fellesskap på tvers av den sørlige og nordlige halvkulen, og hvordan vi kan ta i bruk ressursene våre i arbeid for politisk forandring.

_Vicente Mollestad (f. 1987, Bolivia) vokste opp i Norge. Hans praksis omfatter mange medier, inkludert installasjon, maleri, lyd, tekst og performance. Mollestad bor for tiden i El Alto og driver El Faro. Flyttingen til Bolivia har radikalt endret hans kunstneriske praksis, som tematiserer forholdet mellom Vesten og det ikke-vestlige, migrasjon og utvikling av antikolonial kunnskap og strategier.
_El Faro er et kunstnerdrevet visningssted grunnlagt i 2024 for å støtte og utvikle El Altos kunstscene. Med et hyperlokalt perspektiv er El Faros virksomhet forankret i Bolivias politiske situasjon, kolonihistorie, lokale materialer, urfolkskunnskap og tradisjoner.

Gratuito, Moreno y Anticolonial means ‘free, brown and anticolonial’, and is the slogan for the small, independent, artist-run space El Faro. Founded in 2024, El Faro is a collective investigation of what art can be, and what it can mean in a Bolivian context.
Artist Vicente Mollestad was selected through the UKS open call. He decided to channel the resources for the solo exhibition at UKS into the local art scene in Bolivia, where he was born and where he has spent the majority of his time for the last six years, including co-running El Faro with Cristal Melby and Fide Muñez.
As much a critical gesture as a clear and solid act of love, the exhibition asks what it means to translate, export and build community across global South and North, and how we might use our resources for political change.
About
_Vicente Mollestad (b. 1987, Bolivia) was raised in Norway. His practice includes many media, including installation, painting, sound, text and performance. Mollestad currently co-runs El Faro in El Alto, where he also lives. The move to Bolivia has radically changed his artistic practice, which revolves thematically around the relationship between the West and the un-Western, migration, and the development of anti-colonial knowledge and strategies.
_El Faro is an artist-run space founded in 2024 to support and grow El Alto’s art scene. Assuming a hyper-local perspective, El Faro’s work is grounded in Bolivia’s political situation, colonial history, local materials, and Indigenous knowledge and traditions.
