About this Event
Experience the New Mexico premiere of Via Lucis (“Way of Light” or “Way of Resurrection”) with organ music by Philip Moore and poetry by Sharon Grenham-Thompson. Canon Dr. Maxine Thévenot on the organ and The Very Rev’d Kristina Maulden, Dean of the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John will bring this hope-filled work to life.
This work contains a sequence of nine poems, providing a resource for the celebration of the Great Fifty Days of Eastertide. The structure is similar to the Stations of the Resurrection or the Stations of Joy, and each reading of poetry is enhanced by organ music, reflecting the tone and imagery of the words.
In modern and accessible language, the poems by Sharon Grenham-Thompson and the music of Philip Moore bring to life the personal encounters with the risen Christ. Together, they provide a fresh interpretation of the resurrection, allowing listeners to discern and mark the Easter mysteries, the Ascension, and Pentecost.
“These poems were written after Easter 2023, as an imagining of the experiences of those who loved Jesus in the aftermath of his death. In their grief, they dared to blink back their tears and see a new hope dawning, a new life unfolding before them – and they began to understand it as resurrection. It is, perhaps, the ever- repeating pattern of loss – the world tilts on its axis, but then slowly, and almost despite itself, the morning comes. But this journey for Jesus’ friends had far-reaching consequences. Out of their amazement and joy came a message that would transform the world.
“Wherever we find ourselves, we are inheritors of the message of hope that burst forth that morning in the garden. Let us journey too, let us walk the Way of Light." - Sharon Grenham-Thompson
