INDUSTRY TALK: BUILDING A SUCCESSFUL GAME DEVELOPMENT CAREER
An industry expert will share their journey, lessons learned & advice for breaking into the field, working on large-scale productions, and carving out your place in a competitive, ever-changing industry.
EXPERIENCE A VFX DEMO IN UNREAL ENGINE
Examine how particle systems – like those used for large enemy swarms or large physics simulations – work in different game engines, including Unreal Engine (used in hit games like Clair Obscur, Reanimal, The Witcher IV, and more). You’ll emerge with a sense of how VFX is used in a variety of games that have been remade in Unreal Engine.
DISCOVER THE POWER OF THE UNITY GAME ENGINE
Experience the power of Unity, from terrain generation to customized lighting, visual effects, adding structures, data importing, and so much more. Another of the industry’s leading game engines, Unity has been utilized in creating hit games like Hollow Knight: Silksong, Genshin Impact, Among Us, Pokémon Go, & more.
DISCOVER THE IMPACT OF A GAME’S VISUAL STYLE
Get a detailed look at the latest tools used in 3D art production for concept creation in games. VFS’s Senior Art Instructor shows off exactly how powerful modern art tools like Substance Painter and Designer can truly bring a concept to life and get AAA games off the ground.
LEVEL-UP AT THE VFS ARCADE
VFS students create award-winning games. A total of 5 VFS-made games have won the Unity Award for Best Student Project: Pulse, Afloat, The Cluckening, Meowmentum Mori, and most recently The Silence After in 2025. Try out select games for yourself at our arcade and see what’s possible in just 1 year of VFS training.
MEET THE HEAD OF GAME DEVELOPMENT
Christopher Mitchell discusses the 1-year journey of Game Design and Programming students at VFS and why we’re ranked the #1 Game Design School in Canada by The Princeton Review. An experienced game developer and educator, Christopher’s credits include The Simpsons: Hit & Run and Crash of the Titans, for which he was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Video Game Writing from the WGA.
