We are delighted to invite you to our next Zoological Society talk:
"Veterinary Care in Tonga: Student and Charity Collaboration" presented by Laura Harvey
Every December (covid-lockdowns excluded) since 2013, a group of 22-24 Unitec staff and students join with South Pacific Animal Welfare to run a week-long free vaccination and desexing clinic in the Kingdom of Tonga. There is no regular access to veterinary care in Tonga and so these clinics help to save lives and vastly improve the health and wellbeing of Tongan animals. Laura talks about the value of these trips, along with some of the challenges of providing veterinary care in a developing country with limited resources.
Associate Professor Laura Harvey is interim Head of School for Environmental and Animal Sciences at Unitec, Auckland. Laura is a registered veterinary nurse with a background in clinical practice and practice management. She has an interest in researching the veterinary nursing profession and the role of the veterinary nurse in modern practice. Laura is vice-president of the New Zealand Veterinary Nursing Association, and a board member for South Pacific Animal Welfare.
Laura is on Researchgate:
