About this Event

Join us for a special Veterans Day Concert at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, located in downtown Washington, DC. The National Museum of the U.S. Navy, in association with the United States Navy Band and DC Public Library, presents the Navy Band Cruisers vocal ensemble, and the Navy Brass Band for your listening enjoyment. Last year it was an SRO audience for this annual event. Register early here on Eventbrite. There will be two performances--one at 1 pm and the other at 3 pm in the library's new books reading room. The Navy Band may perform Veterans Day concerts at other branch libraries. Check back on Eventbrite for updates.

About the Cruisers: The U.S. Navy Band Cruisers, the Navy’s premier popular music group, features eight of the Navy's most dynamic performers. Formed in 1999, the group takes its name from the Navy's versatile, flexible, multi-missioned ship – the Cruiser – and the band lives up to its namesake with the capability of playing a variety of musical genres ranging from jazz standards, rhythm & blues, classic rock, adult contemporary and pop, as well as original material. This elite group has engaged and excited audiences of all ages throughout the U.S. and abroad with excellent musicianship and high-energy, fun-filled performances.

About the Brass Band: The United States Navy Concert Band Brass Band presents various marches, patriotic selections, orchestral transcriptions, and modern wind ensemble repertoire. The Navy Brass Band has been performing concerts at high-profile events for more than 10 years. You may hear them play diverse selections of music from Baroque to Modern. At last year's performance, the Brass Band's standout offering was a movement from Ottorino Respighi's Pines of Rome, a 4-movement tone poem written in 1924, and one of the Italian composer's most celebrated works.

About the National Museum of the United States Navy: The National Museum of the United States Navy opened to the public in 1963 at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC. It's the only museum that presents an overview of U.S. naval history. Exhibitions and programs commemorate the Navy's wartime heroes and battles and its peacetime contributions to exploration, diplomacy, navigation, and humanitarian service.
