About this Event
Venomous snakes have always fascinated and caused great fear, but these creatures are normally quite gentle and shy unless provoked into defending themselves. Naturalist Carlton Burke will help us learn to separate fact from fiction abut the various species of venomous snakes found in North and South Carolina, what to do when encountering venomous snakes in the wild, and administering first aid for snakebites. In addition, participants will get to see many live examples of these venomous snakes up close to gain a better understanding and learn basic identificiation skills in this onsite class.
Carlton Burke is a naturalist and educator who operates Carolina Mountain Naturalists, an educational service which offers wildlife and nature educational programs throughout western North Carolina. He also was on the staff of the western North Carolina Nature Center in Asheville for over 25 years as the Curator of Exhibits. Carlton co-hosts a weekly radio program NATURE NEWS and is also a NC state and federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator.
