At the heart of the concert is the timeless Advent hymn “Veni, Emmanuel,” explored through a variety of unique musical settings that span both traditional and contemporary styles. In addition to these inspired interpretations, the program will include a selection of beloved carols and modern holiday works that celebrate the mystery and joy of the season.A highlight of the evening will be the U.S. premiere of Canadian composer Stephen Smith’s setting of Sweet Was the Song, a hauntingly beautiful lullaby for the Christ child. This piece will feature guest artist tenor Bryant Denmark, whose expressive voice will bring a special warmth to this deeply evocative work.
In the spirit of invitation in the Christmas season, the choir welcomes audience members to stay after the concerts to chat with the singers and share Christmas breads provided by the singers.
The choir is under the leadership of Artistic Director Patricia Denmark, with Assistant Conductor Michelle Carpenter, and Collaborative Pianist Ann Lavender.
“This program invites listeners into a space of both longing and hope — themes central to the Christmas season,” says Patricia Denmark. “The music is meditative, joyful, and rich with meaning!”
Admission is by suggested donation of $15
