At our last meetup, it was helpful to have a practical exercise we could work through interactively to illustrate Stoic principles. We will do that again, this time with Epictetus' dichotomy of control.
Dichotomy of Control Exercise
Think about a recent time when you felt an intensely negative emotional reaction in a situation. It could be an inconvenience like getting stuck in traffic, or a more impactful event, such as losing a job.
For each instance, think about:
\- What happened \(the external event\)
\- What you wanted or tried to control
\- What was truly within your control
\- How you might handle the situation differently next time
