Van Dyke Dance Group Master Class
with Virginia Freeman Dupont
This master class honors the movement philosophy and choreographic voice of Jan Van Dyke through an embodied exploration of her distinctive modern technique and artistic sensibility.
As a longtime company member of the Gamble/Van Dyke Dance Company and later the Van Dyke Dance Group, and now one of three trustees entrusted with preserving Jan’s work, Virginia brings lived experience and direct lineage to the studio.
Class will explore:
- Grounded, weight-centered movement
- Expansive upper body
- Suspension and release
- Musical precision with dynamic range
- Strength and vulnerability existing simultaneously
Jan’s work was architectural yet fluid, powerful yet deeply human. Dancers will move through technique exercises and phrase work reflective of her repertory, with attention to spatial awareness, clarity of intention, and authentic presence.
This class welcomes those ready to engage fully — physically, intellectually, and artistically — in a movement practice rooted in integrity, depth, and humanity.
