BACKGROUND: Since 1995, SongBird North (formerly Bluebird North) has been a mainstay in Vancouver for songwriters from across the continent, as a bi-monthly showcase that features four talented singer/songwriters of widely varying styles, on stage together, taking turns playing their original songs and sharing stories with one another and the audience about their work. While the series was started in Toronto and has toured nationally, Vancouver remains its longest-standing host city. www.songwriters.ca
ABOUT THE WRITERS:
SUSANA WILLIAMS
Susana Williams is a producer, composer, singer, musician and performer based out of the Fraser Valley. Her musical career began in Caracas, Venezuela at the age of 13 when a professional band began rehearsing in her apartment building’s basement. The group of musicians let her sing one day for a laugh – only to hire her on the spot. From there she began singing everything from folk music to rock while writing her own music and learning to play drums, congas and guitar.
At 15, Susana had won best singer at The Festival of New Music in Caracas, earned a scholarship at the Roland Learning Centre of Music and was playing four nights a week at local nightclubs.By 22 she was one of the hottest acts in the Caracas nightlife, where people lined up around the block to watch her perform her unique mix of Latin, Anglo pop and rock.
In 1998 Susana left Venezuela and immigrated to Canada. Her fourth album “To Be Honest” was released January 2024.
She started writing music as a child. She wrote a song to her grandmother at the age of 6. Her first "serious" composition was at the age of 13. She wrote this song using a small Yamaha keyboard in her bedroom back home. "Perdona" was the first song that she ever wrote and it made it on to her first solo album.

BECKY PROKOVA
Becky Prokova is a singer-songwriter with magnetic charisma and authenticity. Her music is a collection of life stories, each lyric revealing the power of her journey of self-discovery. Becky is a commanding, engaging and positive performer. Even in a large crowd you feel an intimate connection. She draws you in with her great sense of humour and then hits you with a deeply heartfelt song - some are upbeat pop tunes, while others are vulnerable ballads - uniting Becky deeply with her audience. All of her songs are transformative as they take you through many emotions, then leave you on the other side, inspired and uplifted. The new album is set to release one song at a time, starting in January 2024.
