About this Event
Vancouver Cantonese Choir proudly presents its Inaugural Concert — 𝐍𝐨 𝐖𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝, a landmark event celebrating the vitality, depth, and future of Cantonese choral music.
This special evening begins with a virtual Cantonese choral workshop led by Prof. Kai-Young Chan (Associate Professor of Composition, The Chinese University of Hong Kong), featuring live demonstrations by the Vancouver Cantonese Choir. Presented in English, the workshop introduces the core principles of Cantonese choral writing and performance, while sharing practical resources for singers, conductors, and educators interested in this vibrant genre.
Following the workshop, audiences are invited to experience the very first concert of the Vancouver Cantonese Choir. The programme features all Cantonese choral works by living composers, showcasing a rich diversity of musical voices and perspectives. Through this inaugural performance, the choir seeks to honour tradition, support contemporary creators, and open new pathways for Cantonese choral art in Vancouver and beyond.
Featured works by: Prof. Kai-Young Chan, Dr. Steve Ho, Dr. Austin Yip, Alex Tam, Ng Cheuk-yin, Victor Li Wai Tak and Man Li.
𝐍𝐨 𝐖𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 marks the beginning of a new project-based choir dedicated to celebrating and advancing Cantonese choral art through high-quality performance, education, and cross-cultural engagement. Whether you are a Cantonese speaker, choral musician, or curious listener, this event offers a meaningful entry point into a powerful and evolving choral genre.
