About this Event
In September, the United Nations will host the Summit of The Future, which will seek a new international consensus on how best to address the evolving and complex challenges facing the world. Recent years have demonstrated vivid gaps in our current multilateral architecture and the importance of updating global governance to better enable UN Member States to fulfill existing commitments, such as the Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Climate Agreement, and the principles of the UN Charter. The views and priorities of the United States vis-a-vis the summit’s chief outcome, the Pact for the Future (and two associated instruments, the Global Digital Compact and Declaration on Future Generations), will be critical. What are the priorities of the Biden administration for the multilateral system, and what leadership is it willing to provide to realize them, in partnership with other Member States and non-governmental organizations? Are there causes of concern for Washington, and how might those be addressed?
