About this Event
About the Day
The day will start with a dance class led by Richard Chappell Dance, sharing the company’s movement practice. Richard's class starts with mobilising, expanding and stretching the body through repetitive movement patterns and improvisational tasks, connecting to breath. After this, exercises are looped across the studio, connecting dancers to the ground and encouraging continuous passing of weight. Spirals are used to build up momentum, coordination and precision and small phrases connect material together before a full bodied and playful final phrase. Richard's class is designed to be energetic and fun, whilst also being accessible and adaptable for different energy levels and needs.
The second session of the day will be a facilitated discussion on artistic values, where Richard will support artists to identify and articulate the values behind their practices and the motivations for their work, with a strong focus on peer discussion to support how this information may be shared with potential funders, project partners, participants and audiences. Richard will share examples of how RCD’s values and practices are put into writing, to support artists to consider their own information materials.
The final part of the day will focus on partnership development for independent, self producing artists. We will break down RCD’s partnership development practices, with a strong focus on the different ways artists may be able to work with organisations to strengthen funding bids and build clear narratives of activity for self produced projects, whilst growing career momentum for the artist. Time will be allocated to peer discussion to support mapping of potential future partners for each attending artist.
