*** THESE TAILGATES ARE DEDICATED AND IN MEMORY of Mark's late father, Jim Urbanski.
Jim and his four friends were responsible for bringing the Bucs to Tampa back in 1974!!
Starting in the late 60's, Jim Urbanski and his four fellow Tampa friends, businessmen, civic leaders and football fanatics had decided that Tampa was going to be the NFL's next city.
They began meeting with then NFL
Commissioner Pete Rozelle and Team owners at all of the Superbowls and at offseason meetings at the league headquarters in New York City, pitching Tampa to them. In 1974, Tampa was awarded the Buccaneers franchise.
Tampa still holds the record for the only NFL franchise ever awarded to a city by the league without an owner at the time. Dad and his four friends were always good at what they did.
Soon afterwards they found an owner in Hugh Culverhouse, a Jacksonville tax attorney.
Then the five gentlemen went on to land Super Bowl 18 (1984 Raiders vs. Redskins) and Super Bowl 25 (1991 Giants vs. Bills) for Tampa. In 1985, they worked with the NCAA to successfully bring the Outback Bowl (Tampa Bay Bowl) from Birmingham, Alabama to Tampa which was known as the Hall of Fame Bowl at the time.
