About this Event

Join us at Hillen Homestead for this immersive overview of urban flower farming, featuring abundant business tips for small-scale producers. Attendees will get a tour of this beautiful flower farm and have the opportunity to see sustainable growing methods in action, including no-till production, no synthetic fertilizers/pesticides, and locally sourced compost for fertility. Proper harvesting technique will be demonstrated along with floral arrangement tips.

Attendees will have the opportunity to make a mini bouquet to take home!

About the Facilitator

Maya Kosok has been farming sustainably grown cut flowers in Baltimore since 2012. She currently grows on two sites for Baltimore/DC area florists and a unique bouquet subscription program. A founding member of the Farm Alliance, Maya has been an instrumental advocate for urban agriculture in Baltimore and has taught many workshops on flower farming rooted in her extensive experience and expertise.

About the Farm

Hillen Homestead uses sustainable practices to grow cut flowers for neighbors and customers while beautifying Baltimore City, guided by the core values of collaboration, creativity, community, sustainability, and equity. A longstanding member of the Farm Alliance and the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers, Hillen Homestead grows over 80 kinds of unique fresh cut flowers and foliage, specializing in unusual varieties that don't ship well and are hard to source without a local grower.
