Yes, you can have chickens in urban spaces! Learn about how to get started with city chickens, what care they need, and lots more.
About this Event

Did you know you can raise chickens in cities? You can!

When you raise urban chickens, you can increase your garden's health and produce even more of your own food. In this workshop, we'll walk you through the steps to setting up your flock, review different coop designs, and provide an overview of chicken husbandry so you can keep your birds healthy. You also get to meet our expert instructors' very own backyard chickens!

Instructors Jamie and Blas are natives of San Francisco. They tend a small homestead in San Francisco with their two girls, complete with honey bees, chickens, greenhouse, mini-orchard, and vegetables. Blas has a degree in environmental studies, a certificate in sustainable design from the Urban Permaculture Institute of San Francisco, and currently is assistant director of education at CuriOdyssey, Zoo and Science Museum. Jamie has an MS in science and a doctorate in education from SF State University. She is a certified UC Cooperative Extension Master Gardener and is currently the director of programs at the Gardens of Golden Gate Park (which includes the SF Botanical Garden, Conservatory of Flowers, and Japanese Tea Garden). In their free time, you can find them volunteering at their local community greenspace Sisterhood Gardens and running their garden education company @FogCityGardener.
