About this Event
Explore the botany side of our community science Ecology programme!
Weather depending, we will be getting up close and personal with the plants on one of our diverse survey sites, from brownfield to woodland. With your help we will be establishing a baseline of species on site, and hopefully show the diversity of plant life in our urban spaces.
Depending on the season this might change, from collecting wildflower seeds, doing quadrat surveys, identifying and recording trees and plants, to creating meadows/brownfield/green-roof habitat.
What the volunteering will involve:
- Learning the basics of plant identification
- Using iNaturalist to record findings and feed into national monitoring schemes
- Experience in using keys and plant ID books
- Exploring the plant life across various habitats on site
- Learning from our Biodiversity Officers
- Creating or protecting wild plant habitat
- All necessary equipment and any required PPE will be provided
You'll be a good fit if you have:
- An interest in botany/biodiversity/ecology and connecting with your local environment.
- Enthusiasm for the project & the objectives of Cody Dock.
What you'll need:
- Sturdy footwear (boots/solid trainers)
- Weather appropriate clothing
- Refillable water bottle or coffee cup
